LLangennech (H) 28th Sept 2019

Result 4-0  Half time 2-0

This Saturday morning saw a LLangennech team visit Penygaer. LLangennech had attracted a few new players over the summer so were a little of an unknown side.

With 15 of our 16 player squad available this week we had a strong starting 9 with 6 subs all who could positively influence the game when required. Unlike the last 2 weeks we started strongly, on 8 minutes Archie went close after a dribble he fired over the bar. Just after a cross from Connor P from the left was fired across the goal but no-one was on the end of it. A through ball from Owen a minute later put Keegan through who shot just wide of the post. Our first goal came from debut man Harvey after 24 mins who converted with a classy left foot finish, the goal came from Cai & Kian Abbott both closing down and hassling the LLangennech defence giving Harvey the opportunity. LLangennech rarely visited our half and when they did Lawson controlled his defence, keeping a good line and excellent communication. We continued to pressure the LLangennech goal, resulting in a corner. The corner was taken from the right side by Liam. The corner was well taken with power towards the front post area. Something we spoke about in training was someone standing near or in front of the keeper at corners. Aiming to block his view of the ball, and this worked. From the cross the ball cannoned off a defender and in but Harvey staked a claim for his second goal of the season stating he got something on it. Whoever scored we ended the half with a deserved 2 goal lead.

After the break we started off in a positive manner, with shots from Harvey, Liam and Ianto all going close. We added a third goal on 37 minutes, this time it was really pleasing as both the goal and assist came from 2 new players for this season. Kian Abbott closed down his midfield opponent and put a ball through for Cai to score. Well done both. By now we were well on top of the game and possibly eased off a little allowing LLangennech to have 2 shots on goal, both off target but a warning for us to keep focused and play out the full 60 minutes. On 50 minutes another warning, this time on target and well saved by Connor Woods.  Shortly after this warning we closed the game out with our fourth, and again another new player for this season grabbing his first of the season. After good closing down from Keegan the ball went out wide left to Harri who out muscled his marker, continued on down the line towards goal and rifled a shot towards goal. The shot was directed straight at the keeper, however the force in the shot meant the keeper couldn’t keep hold of it and the ball continued on and into the goal.

So its another 3 points this week, with all 15 contributing to the win. Second clean sheet of the season, now only conceding 1 goal in our last 3 games. Very proud of all the boys who are gelling together well, new players fitting in well and a great team spirit. 9 points from September is an excellent return considering at the end of August we weren’t sure if we’d be able to field a side let alone compete.

Lets keep this going into October, some big games coming up, both Banc and Saron will be a test. Both games are at home along with a home game against Pembrey, so lets make Penygaer a fortress. Just the one away game this month, Burry Port this coming weekend.

On recent performance we have no reason to fear anyone in our league, good team spirit and communication is key to our continued success.
